social mediaThere’s something inherently wrong with Snapchat—and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  The use of social media is associated with increased anxiety and decreased mood.  That’s no surprise:  When we interact with others through apps, instead of with empathy, even (old fashioned as it is) in person, we use the app’s language and platform.  It’s impossible, therefore, not to be communicating with others as a hybrid app/person.  As Marshall McLuhan said, “The medium is the message.”

You are part Facebook when posting to Facebook.

You are part Twitter when Tweeting.

You are part Snapcat when sending a snap.

Want to be human?  Embracing art can help.  Create it or collect it or simply contemplate it.  It can connect you with YOU.
